In Joyce’s Ulysses we follow the peripatetic Leopold Bloom, our mostordinary hero, as he walks though the streets of Dublin in 1904. It is in Ulysses, through Bloom and his unstructured perambulations, that the reader is brought to experience a domestic psycho-geography of Dublin.

la ciudad y las bicicletas
no sé cuándo fue que los países bajos se convirtieron en el icono del uso de la bicicleta. quizá no importa. y aunque el nombramiento puede resultar injusto para algunas ciudades chinas, lo cierto es que en nuestro imaginario son inspiración del transporte urbano de dos ruedas.

“The Copenhagen Wheel will be unveiled on December 15 at the COP15 United Nations Climate Conference. The project was conceived and developed by the SENSEable City Lab for the Kobenhavns Kommune. The prototype bikes were realized with the help of our technical partner Ducati Energia and funding from the Ministry for the Environment. Progical Solutions LLC provided technical support for the iphone control of the bikes.
The Copenhagen Wheel project demonstrates that small intelligent implementations can lead to major changes. This work will be displayed at the 2009 Cop 15 UN Climate Summit where the next version of the Kyoto Protocol will be signed”.
helsinki : world design capital 2012 »
helsinki será la sede del world design capital 2012, bienal organizada por el international council of societies of industrial design que celebra y promueve al diseño como factor clave para el desarrollo social, económico y cultural de las ciudades para hacer de ellas lugares más atractivos, funcionales, habitables y eficientes.
la capital de finlandia se suma a una incipiente lista de ciudades con una tradición sólida en el diseño (nokia, como el ejemplo más representativo), precedida por torino (italia) y seúl (corea del sur).
el jurado sobre helsinki: “design has for decades been a pivotal enabler to building an open city. the concept of ‘embedded design’ has tied design to innovation and has enabled desirable solutions that have addressed the needs of its inhabitants. helsinki design includes well-known global brands, such as nokia, kone and marimekko, popular events, like the annual helsinki design week, outstanding education and research institutions, such as the university of art and design helsinki, and exemplary architects and designers such as eliel saarinen and alvar aalto.”
la semana pasada comenzó la construcción de markthal, en rotterdam, la gran ciudad portuaria de holanda y una de más mejor planificadas de europa. markthal, o el rotterdam market hall, es un condominio de 228 departamentos en forma de túnel cuyo patio central es un mercado público que albergará además tiendas y restaurantes.
diseñado por el despacho de arquitectos holandés MVRDV, markthal es definido como ‘una nueva forma de urbanismo que realzará y aprovechará la sinergia de las funciones entre un edificio público y de vivienda’.
con una inversión total de 175 millones de euros, la construcción de markthal finalizará en 2014.
